A funny interaction between an East Providence police officer and a toddler is getting a lot of attention on social media.
15-month-old Brady Viera was riding in a toy Ferrari his dad bought him for Christmas when an East Providence police officer pulled the child over for driving “3 mph in a 2-mph zone.”
Mother Lindsay Oldham said that they were at an art festival when they saw the police officer directing traffic. Oldham got the idea to ask the officer if he could take a photo with her child.
“We felt that having a positive interaction at such a young age is really important,” Oldham said.
Officer Jake Gelsomino played the part to perfection.
“The officer came over and was talking to him. He asked him if he had a license because he was speeding. We had a really great interaction with him,” Oldham said.
Lindsey posted the photo to her social media account, and so did the East Providence Police Department.
“What they usually post is serious, so we didn’t necessarily think they’d post something funny like Brady, especially in this time of day,” Oldham said.
The picture showing Gelsomino talking to Brady got lots of positive feedback on social media.
Officer Gelsomino told NBC 10 that he was happy to play the part.
“I’m so glad to bring up Brady in a community with officers like him,” Oldham said.
