An Ohio police officer was recently seen on dashcam footage using his quick reflexes to dodge a pickup truck that lost control on an icy road and slammed into his cruiser.
The video showed the Willoughby police officer standing on the side of the snow-covered State Route 2 highway at around 11:15 on Christmas morning while assisting another driver who had been in a single-car accident due to the slippery road conditions caused by Winter Storm Elliott. The officer was observing oncoming eastbound traffic when he noticed that a truck was out of control and barreling toward him.
“Hang tight,” the officer can be heard saying in the video just before jumping over the median away from the sliding 2001 Toyota Tundra. The truck can then be seen crashing into the passenger side of the officer’s police vehicle with a loud bang, sending debris flying into the air.
According to police, both cars were disabled due to the damage they sustained in the collision. But amazingly, both the officer and the 63-year-old truck driver were safe and uninjured in the accident.
The driver was later cited for failure to control his vehicle and was issued a court date.
