An Ohio police officer recently went above and beyond the call of duty to help a homeless man who was hungry and stuck out in the cold.
Sergeant Ray Swallen of the Miami Township Police Department attended to a man in need after responding to a welfare check on January 6.
Swallen observed that the man was underdressed for the cold weather and learned that he was hungry and without basic necessities, the department shared.
The man had no family or means of shelter available to him, so Swallen decided to take over the situation and provide him with some comfort and care.
Swallen drove the man to a Walmart and bought him a shirt, hat, socks and shoes. He also bought him a hot breakfast and coffee, and then dropped him off at a bus stop where he provided him with resources to access a local shelter.
“Great job, Sgt. Swallen, we appreciate your dedication to the community!” the department wrote.
