A Texas police department had an unusual surprise after responding to reports of reckless driving who crashed into several cars in a Walmart parking lot, only to discover that the responsible party was actually a dog.
According to the Kilgore Police Department, the dog’s owner left the SUV on while they went shopping at the Walmart, and left the dog to wait in the car.
Police deduced that the dog somehow managed to shift the steering column, which was damaged, into drive mode as he “bounced around” in the cabin.
Investigators then believe the dog’s leash accidentally became caught around the vehicle’s parking break and released it, which caused the vehicle to roll forward and hit two other vehicles.
Police said the dog was even in the driver’s seat at the time of the unlikely incident.
“One of the victims saw the suspect barelling [sic] down on him but couldn’t get out of the way. He was shocked to see the driver was a dog! Yep, the pooch was actually behind the wheel when the crash occurred,” Kilgore police wrote in a Facebook post. “It doesn’t sound feasible but an eyewitness saw the pooch behind the wheel just before the crash. He certainly has a guilty look on his face.”
Kilgore police also included photos of the cute animal perpetrator in the front seat of the car.
No injuries were reported in the accident.
“I did NOT issue this pup’s license, before anyone asks,” the Kilgore Animal Control joked.
The Facebook post received over 2,000 likes.
Kilgore is located in Gregg and Rusk counties in east Texas.
