Deputies from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department in Wisconsin found themselves in an odd situation on March 8 when they were called to assist in returning a lost pig named Kevin Bacon back to its home.
Responding to a call near Brighton, deputies were surprised to find the 450-pound pig wandering about a mile away from its residence.
The ovine, named after Hollywood star Kevin Bacon, had ventured away from its pen and was captured on a home security camera belonging to the Molgaard family.
Jake Molgaard described the unexpected encounter with Kevin Bacon. After his wife noticed the unusual figure on their driveway camera, the hefty pig made its way to their back door.
“My wife started feeding him right away,” Molgaard said, recounting how the couple welcomed the pig with apples, rice cakes, tomatoes and carrots.
The Molgaards took it upon themselves to locate Kevin Bacon’s owner, who was out of town at the time.
With the assistance of a farmer friend who had the owner’s contact information, they devised a plan to lure the pig back home using sweets such as cookies and marshmallows. Accompanied by the sheriff’s deputies for safety, the Molgaards embarked on a journey to lead Kevin Bacon back to his pen.
Despite his hefty size, the pig proved to be tame and friendly, and even allowed Molgaard’s 16-year-old daughter to hop on his back to guide him along the way.
After a one-mile, two-and-a-half-hour adventure, Kevin Bacon was safely returned to his home by the glow of a flashlight in the darkness.
Reflecting on the experience, Molgaard expressed gratitude for the Sheriff’s Department’s assistance and shared that the family had developed a fondness for their unexpected visitor.
“He is a massive creature, but the owner says he’s a gentle giant,” Molgaard said. “We have been over there every day giving him a dozen donuts.”
Despite initial concerns about accommodating a 450-pound pig, Molgaard admitted that his family had grown attached to Kevin Bacon.
“They wanted to adopt him immediately,” Molgaard revealed. “But yeah, they fell in love with him right away.”
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department commended its deputies for their role in safely returning Kevin Bacon to his home, jokingly dubbing the incident a “typical county call” in a Facebook post documenting the pig’s adventure.
