Officers in Durango, Colorado, were recently in a “high-speed chase” with a peculiar pet that got loose.
Bodycam video released on October 23 showed officers responding to a 9-1-1 call about “a baby kangaroo with a diaper on” that was wandering around a major city street.
“Hi. So, I know this is going to sound completely insane,” 9-1-1 call started. “I was just downtown and I was walking home from work. There is, like, a baby kangaroo with a diaper on wandering down Main Street.”
In the video, Officers Preskorn, Walters, and Hamer can be seen talking to one another while the little red kangaroo hops across an intersection and down the street.
One officer asked another out-of-frame, “Would you think it would be better if I just used my hands?”
She then asked, “does it have rabies? Thing’s going to kick me.”
Fortunately, officers were able to wrangle the kangaroo safely and return it to its owner, who shared that the kangaroo’s name was Irwin. “No worries, the long-legged friend was released to their owner … and we’re seriously reconsidering cardio,” the department posted on Facebook. “Who knew kangaroo wrangling was part of the job? No Roos were harmed in the filming of this video.”
