The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) on February 22 announced Trooper Michelle Archer of the Vermont State Police Department as its Officer of the Month for December 2023. Trooper Archer was selected for her bravery and heroism when she rescued an 8-year-old girl from a frozen pond in Vermont.
Just before Christmas, Archer responded to a life-threatening emergency in which a young girl had fallen through thin ice into a near-freezing pond. At great risk to her personal safety, Archer swam to the drowning girl and pulled her to shore. Her selfless actions demonstrated bravery, courage, leadership and professionalism. Without her heroic conduct, the outcome could have been tragic.
“These officers are heroes, and their actions serve to highlight the countless acts of valor which often go unnoticed and without the recognition or fanfare such acts deserve,” NLEOMF CEO William Alexander said. “We are humbled and proud to honor Trooper Archer as our Officer of the Month for December 2023.”
The Officer of the Month Award Program is sponsored by the Police Unity Tour and recognizes federal, state and local officers who distinguish themselves through exemplary law enforcement service and devotion to duty.
