A Phoenix Police Department officer is being hailed a hero after saving a man who crashed his car into an apartment complex swimming pool early Halloween morning.
Witnesses called 9-1-1 after seeing a man drive into the deep end of a residential pool just after 2 a.m. According to police, the man’s car became submerged in the pool after he said “he accidentally stepped on the gas too hard.”
The department released body-camera footage of the rescue on November 12, which showed an officer diving into the pool, climbing on top of the car and breaking the sunroof with a metal object before pulling the man to safety.
“Thanks to the swift and courageous response of the officer, the man’s life was saved,” the department said on Facebook.
