Simi Valley Police arrested a man on suspicion of narcotics sales after finding a drone with a bag of heroin onboard.
According to an LA Times report, 51-year-old John Piani was taken into custody by Simi Valley Police in the 900 block of Enchanted Way on suspicion of selling heroin and methamphetamine.
The Police Department said in a news release that the suspect was arrested while operating a drone with a bag of heroin attached. A Simi Valley narcotics investigation initially led them to the man.
Simi Valley Police released a photo of the drone on Instagram pointing to the bag containing white powder, with the caption “Seemed like a good idea 😐. It wasn’t… Heroin sales, even in Class A-G Air Space, is heroin sales. Found this gem on a suspected heroin dealer.”
Piani is being held on $125,000 bail at the Ventura County Jail on two counts of possessing a controlled substance for sale and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine if he was using the drone to sell drugs. Piani could face felony charges for possessing drugs for sale.
