New Jersey State Police will commemorate their 100th anniversary with 10 new, retrofitted police cruisers.

According to CBS New York report, the new unit of Ford cruisers have been retrofitted to resemble the models from the 1940s through the ’50s with the single red emergency light on top and a vintage New Jersey police logo on the sides.

Despite the vintage exterior of the car, the inside is replete with 21st century technological features, including a microphone system that records audio from police body cameras.

The retro unit was unveiled by Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Mottley and Major Robert Linden of the New Jersey State Police, along with troopers from the tactical patrol unit.

The NJSP released a video on Twitter unveiling the cars and notifying the public about the change. They made sure to inform motorists that the cars are fully functional and authorized patrol cars, and to expect to see them on patrol.

“We would like motorists to be aware that the black and white vehicles, though nostalgic in appearance, are actual patrol vehicles,” the agency alerted.

The reception to the unveiling on Twitter was mixed. Some liked the throwback concept, while others regarded it as a waste of taxpayer money.
