Jones County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call about possible human remains in a national forest but were surprised to find it was just a life-size doll.
Deputies arrived at the scene near a trail in the Hitchiti National Forest after responding to a call from a hiker who reported finding what was believed to be a human body.
It turned out that the “woman” was, in fact, a life-size doll “complete with accessories.”
Sheriff R.N. “Butch” Reece posted about the bizarre incident on Facebook.
“Initial responding deputies observed what appeared to be the body of a deceased female wearing white socks. Our crack team of investigators arrived on scene, along with Deputy Matthew Dennis, who quickly recognized the body to actually be a life-size doll, complete with accessories.”
The sheriff joked that he was “very concerned” after Dennis located the model number and assured him that the crime scene was “appropriately processed” and all the evidence was collected.
“The victim, now named Selena, is a little under the weather, but she has been having a nice day and is expected a make a full recovery,” the sheriff joked.
The sheriff then thanked God that this was just a case of littering and not a real murder case. He then directed a comment at the littering suspect.
“If you know Selena or are responsible for her whereabouts, rest assured no DNA was collected, and you are safe,” he wrote. “But in the future, please make sure to dispose of your items in a responsible way. Have a great weekend.”
One commenter still thought something was amiss. “Hope it wasn’t a practice run! There has to be more to it than a simple case of littering!” he wrote.
Hitchiti National Forest is an evergreen forest located 18 miles northeast of Macon in Jones County, Georgia.
