A New Jersey police officer recently reunited with a family one month after he played a pivotal role in delivering a baby girl at their home.
The Toms River Police Department took to Facebook to share the heartwarming photos of Officer Pete Saker cradling the infant, named Mia.
The reunion caps off yet another story of a police officer coming to the rescue to deliver a child — one of the many unexpected duties of the job.
“This is a story too good not to share! Baby Mia made quite the early entrance just after midnight on September 27th. Officer Pete Saker was the first to arrive at the home of a young mother in labor. Within minutes of arrival, he delivered this beautiful baby girl!” the Facebook caption read.
One of the images captured Saker beaming with baby Mia, who appeared to be peacefully sleeping. In another photo, Saker is seen posing with her alongside Mia’s proud parents, D’Kota and Nick, as well as Mia’s older sister, Lilly.
Saker’s quick response and assistance were crucial in delivering the infant. According to reports, he was the first to arrive on the scene after authorities received an emergency call about a woman going into labor at her home. Realizing that there was no time to reach the hospital, Saker bravely stepped in to help deliver the baby.
“Welcome to the world Baby Mia,” the department declared.
