The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) on December 17 announced Officer Thomas Griffiths of the Harwich, Massachusetts, Police Department as its Officer of the Month for November 2024. Officer Griffiths was selected for his actions when he rescued a teenage girl who became trapped in the backseat of a vehicle that caught fire after crashing into a tree.
On November 18, Officer Griffiths, disregarding significant risk to himself, reached into the backseat and freed the trapped victim, pulling her out of the vehicle just as the vehicle became fully engulfed. Officer Griffiths moved the victim away from the vehicle and was able to apply a tourniquet to the victim’s leg, which had been severely injured in the crash.
“These officers are heroes, and their actions serve to highlight the countless acts of valor that often go unnoticed and without the recognition or fanfare such acts deserve,” NLEOMF CEO William Alexander said. “We are humbled and proud to honor Officer Griffiths as our Officer of the Month for November 2024.”
The Officer of the Month Award Program is sponsored by the Police Unity Tour and recognizes federal, state and local officers who demonstrate exemplary law enforcement service and dedication to their duty.
