As students across the country headed back to class, law enforcement officers were there to make sure the new school year started on a positive and safe note.
In Massachusetts, Plymouth Police Department’s school resource officers hit the ground running, greeting students with smiles and high-fives in the hallways. From assisting with crosswalks to ensuring school zones remain safe, Plymouth’s SROs are dedicated to being a steady, positive presence in the schools. Their work sets the tone for a safe and successful year ahead. “We’re so proud of the work they do and can’t wait to see all the great things our students accomplish this year,” the department said

In Virginia, Fredericksburg Police Department leaders showed their support on the very first day. Members of the command staff turned out at local schools to welcome students, families and teachers as they arrived, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere that underscored the department’s commitment to its school community.
Meanwhile, in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Westover Division helped students get ready for class in a different way — with a back-to-school bash hosted for the young men of West Blvd Ministry, an organization that builds relationships between schools, churches and local businesses. Knockout basketball, corn hole and cookout food made it a memorable evening. “Best of all, thanks to the generous support of community partners, each student was provided a new backpack full of school supplies,” the department said.

In Iowa County, Wisconsin, the beginning of the school year marked Sheriff’s Deputy Havlik’s third year teaching the D.A.R.E. program. “The program continues to give students the skills to make positive choices, build confidence and know they have a strong support system in their community,” the department explained. “Here’s to another great year of learning, growing, and making a difference together!”
