A North Carolina police officer is being hailed as a hero after saving a choking 4-month-old baby. On October 28, around 9:07 p.m., Kinston Police Department’s D-Squad was dispatched to a terrifying call — an infant who couldn’t breathe.
Officer J. Jones arrived within moments and found the baby’s distraught mother standing in the front yard, holding her child and pleading for help. Acting quickly, Officer Jones assessed the situation and saw that the infant was conscious but struggling to breathe. She immediately began performing back slaps to clear the baby’s airway.
Within seconds, the sound everyone had been praying for filled the air — the baby began to cry.
“EMS transported the child to UNC Lenoir for evaluation, and thanks to Officer Jones’ swift response and training, a tragedy was prevented,” the department said on Facebook. “Please join us in recognizing Officer Jones for her quick thinking, calm under pressure, and dedication to protecting our community.”
