Police officers came to the rescue of a frightened dog that found itself in a “ruff” situation inside a Manhattan subway station on October 24.
According to the NYPD, officers from the department’s Emergency Service Unit responded to a call about a dog trapped under a train at the 14th Street–Union Square subway station. The dark gray, curly-haired dog — named Moose — had reportedly escaped from a doggy day care facility after someone left the door open and ended up on the tracks beneath a northbound No. 2 train around 9:45 a.m.
Body-worn camera footage captured the tense but heartwarming scene as ESU officers carefully climbed down to reach the petrified pup, who was covered in dust but miraculously unharmed.
“When Moose the dog got loose and went hiding underneath a 2 train, our Emergency Service Unit officers came to the rescue,” the department said on Facebook. “Thanks to NYPD transit officers, Moose was safely reunited with its owner!”
