Las Vegas Metro police officers wanted to let the son of a fallen colleague know that they had his back. Several officers accompanied Noah Swanger, the son of fallen Officer Jason Swanger to his first day of 4th grade.
Officer Swanger died of complications from COVID-19 at the age of 41, according to the Las Vegas Sun. Police did not specify how he came in contact with the virus.
Noah, 9, told officer that he hopes to be a Clark County Sheriff one day.
The LVMPD posted a video to twitter showing Noah high-fiving and hugging police officers before they walked with him to school.
The caption read, “The families of the fallen are not left behind. Our officers escorted Noah Swanger, 9, to his first day of 4th grade at #SteveSchorrElementary His dad, Ofc. #JasonSwanger passed away on June 24. Noah wore a tie today because he’s the man of the house now.”
“Ready to roll?” Officers asked.
“Yep,” Noah replied.
Officer Jason Swanger’s death was counted as an on-duty death, as are all officer deaths due to COVID contracted on the job.
Swanger is the second COVID-related officer for the department, with the first being Lt. Erik Lloyd last year. He worked on the force for 7 years.
